We are a member of the Seven Churches Benefice, incorporating the villages of Aldwincle, Clopton, Pilton, Stoke Doyle, Titchmarsh and Wadenhoe.

Grade of Listing: Grade II* listed 23rd May 1967

The church of St John the Baptist is situated on a ridge above the River Nene, some 5 miles south of Oundle and about ¼ of a mile from the village of Achurch. It serves as the parish church for Achurch and the nearby villages of Thorpe Waterville, Lilford and Wigsthorpe.

Constructed in the 13th century to a regular cruciform plan and built in squared, coursed limestone, the church consisted of: a nave, north and south transepts, a chancel and a tower. A second building phase around the end of the century saw the addition of a spire and possibly alterations to windows. The north aisle and south porch were added in the 19thcentury, creating the church that is seen today. Originally probably a thatched building, the roof is now a mixture of Collyweston slate and lead. It is surrounded by a large churchyard, extended in the 19th century, which is entered by a 19th century Lychgate.
